Two years ago, Kyler and I went on a hike in Logan Canyon called Old Juniper. It's a 10.4 mile hike and probably the prettiest hikes I've been on up here in Northern UT. My sister in law, Paige, and her family live in the same house we do and for the past 2 years our families have talked about doing this hike together. We were going to do it last summer, but Paige and I were both pregnant and we couldn't get ourselves to hike that far in the heat with a baby on our front . . . so we decided we would hike it this summer with the babies on our backs.
the week before going on this hike, I bought my first official Mother;s day gift for myself. It's the baby carrier!!!! It's pretty awesome! first picture is of the first time I put Bug in her carrier (the week before the hike).
We decided we would leave for our hike at 9 am. We had our lunches packed, sunscreen applied, hats on, and very little sleep (atleast for Kyler and I, we went to bed at 2 AM!!!)
Bug is strapped in and ready to go. We started down the trail at 9:40.
Paige and family. Carter is 2 weeks younger than Bug
Kyler is all packed and ready
I'm ready! (Yes i carried Bug up to the top of the trail, this is because i'm trying to burn off all that baby fat!! I look so gross!)
Carter and Craig are set
Starting out on the trail, excited, happy and no one has to go potty!
I love the greenery!!!
Bug slept most of the way, but when she woke up, her eyes were puffy and she had snot running down her face. . . . I think she has allergies!! the poor baby!! (I wasn't much better)
this is a view at a random break we took. Isn't it beautiful?
We stopped about 4.5 miles into the hike to eat lunch . . . By this point, we weren't sure if we really wanted to finish the hike, we were all exhausted!!
Craig with his son
Family photos!! These are still taken at the place we ate lunch. Aren't you jealous? we had a wonderful view while we ate!!
Are done get?
This is the real reason Kyler and I go on the hike . .. we want to see the TIKI man and have him sing for us!!! only, i think he might be too far away from Disneyland so we didn't get to much singing from him
i'm dead!!! I like that carrier, but putting a 17 lb baby in it makes it so much harder to hike!!!
the view
We hiked 5.2 miles to look at a dead tree!! According to Kyler it's one of the oldest plants in Utah
this is how Bug and I ended the hike. We were a mile away from the finish line and she decided she was DONE with the carrier. It was about 2 PM so she was in it for a little over 4 hours!!
this is how kyler finished the hike . .. did you notice that he was carrying everything except the baby? Poor guy!! what a good sport!!!
Parts of the hike that do not have pictures. Kyler almost kicked a snake!!! I was behind him and screamed like a little girl!! (it ended up being a garden snake, but i really don't like snakes!!!) and there were tons of bees, and of course i'm the only one that noticed them and they were following me everywhere!!! One actually ran into my face!!! Lucky for me, they weren't interested in eating me or my baby.
This was a way fun hike, but I don't think we will do a hike that is this long for quite a while! We will at least need to get some practice hikes in before we do this again!! Man i'm so out of shape!!!
