Note To Self. . .
At the day care, we have had frequent spider scenes. The kids love spiders, but for us teachers . . . not so much. Usually, the teachers, like me, scream and jump back and yell "Spider!!!" I'm not joking when I say that we scream.
Each morning, there is one little girl that follows me around as I do my cleaning. I give this little 2 year old a spray bottle so she can pretend to clean the bathroom as I do, and I let her hold onto the vacuum as I push it. It’s so much fun.
On this particular day, i decided that when we finished cleaning, that we would lie down on the ground and give a great big sigh. So we did. She fell on my stomach and we giggled. Then she asked, " where’s Manna’s arm pit?" And so, I raised my arm and she put her clean hand into my sweaty arm pit. . . she pulled away and said "ooo, sweaty" and I just nodded. Than out of now where, she pulls her hands close to her body, fingers spread wide, her eyes got big, and her mouth fell open. Then, she pointed to my arm pit, and with a voice full of fear she said "spider!" All I could do was say calmly, without laughing or turning pink, say. . . "no, i have hairy arm pits"
So, my lesson has been learned. . . i now shave before going to work! For those of you with cute little 2 year olds, i would suggest shaving to save yourself the embarrassment of the child pointing and yelling "SPIDER!"
