Safe Haven book Review

For some reason i'm on a reading spree. Thats not a bad thing unless you take into consideration that I have two kids and a husband to care for and i'm stuck in a book!

5 out of 5 stars

Last night I finished reading Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks. It was a really good book! Once again it's a love story that takes place in a small town in North Carolina. The main character's name is Katie.

Katie finds herself hiding out in this small town trying to escape her past. She finds a job as a waitress and begins saving money in case her haunting past finds her again.  After finding a job and a place to live in this small town, she tries to isolate herself from everyone. The home she is renting is one that is off the road and hidden in the trees. there is only one home next to hers and the landlord said no one would be renting it. After a couple of months, to her and the Landlord's surprise, she soon gets a neighbor named Jo. Jo is a woman who is a grief counselor. (had to state she was women because i was really confused when i read the summary of the book before reading it). Jo is out of town a lot but Katie and Jo become good friends.

Jo tries to nudge Katie into falling in love with a man named Alex. As soon as Jo starts talking about Alex, Katie begins to notice him.

Alex has two kids and owns a convenience store. Alex is a widower and is ready to fall in love again and finds he is very attracted to Katie, but Katie is trying to distance herself from him because of her secret past life.

In the end, Katie is forced to face her past life. This section of the book gets your adrenaline going! on my goodness i felt my heart racing the last 100 pages! I thought i would pass out before i made it to the end! there was enough said to know parts of what was going to happen, but it still made you crazy!!

oh, and in the end, there is a CRAZY twist when it comes to one of the characters!! I had no idea how to take it!! But it was great and SO unexpected!

I did have one issue with the story and that was Katie's identification. I can't say more or it will give away part of the story, but i was really frustrated with that becuase it just didn't make sense and I felt she should have gotten caught or it get resolved.

I'm really enjoying this author. This is the third book i've read of his. I read Dear John two years ago and really enjoyed it, i've read the Notebook, and now i've just finished Safe Haven. I just checked out A Walk to Remember and i'm so excited to start reading it.

Safe Haven comes out on DVD tomorrow and i think i'm going to red box it!  I'll have to take a breather and realize that it's not the book. The movies really warp the books! it's sad! But than again, Nicholas Sparks really doesn't have a lot of dialog in his books. It's mostly descriptions  so I can see how it would be hard to do his books. I noticed in the preview for Safe Haven they switched someone's name, they made katie more confident than she should be, they show a brief clip of Alex and Katie sleeping together which the book made a big deal that they wouldn't sleep together until the past was resolved, and the book also makes a big deal that katie was to uncomfortable to wear a swim suit infront of Alex and his kids when they went to the beach and guess what, she's wearing a bikini! grrr. If the book makes a big deal about something, than you should probably follow through with what the book said rather than do your own thing! Even though there are things that are different i'm excited to see the show.

here's a link that takes you to the trailer, i don't know how to post it on here. I used to know, but i'm just brain dead these days  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mj6i_Z1Srsw
