About four years ago, i went on a pioneer trek. I had a blast. I Smiled most of the way... being fifteen that's easy to do, but about mid trip, i noticed that a rash that i had on my arm before i left had increased in size and it was beginning to take the shape of a bold "O"... i shrugged my shoulders when i noticed how much larger it was, and then continued to to relieve the itchiness by scratching it when it asked to be scratched. When I got home, i showed my mom my arm. She through herself into a panic and she rushed me over to the doctors... well she let me shower first... thank goodness. The doctor took one look at my rash and announced that i had "ring worm". in my mind at that point in life, A picture of a worm under my skin appeared. I began thinking about how sometimes when you have worms in your stomach, doctors will make the worm come out you're mouth. I began to get sick and i asked the doctor what i needed to do to get rid of this worm in my arm. He laughed because he new i thought ring worm was a worm. He looked at me and told me that ring worm was just a rash that is in the shape of a circle that is caved in in the center. He told me that back in the day, pioneer-ish type people once thought that a worm was actually under the skin eating the muscle there... I was relived to find out that it was just a rash and not a real worm, but that did not excuse how badly it itched and burned.
well that week that i had ringworm, Christa and Matt came to town to visit my family. If you know those two, you know that when they see a perfect opportunity to tease someone, they don't let it pass them by. So, for my sad story: My family took a trip to Zion while they were down. We rode the bus up the mountain to a hiking place. While on the bus, Christa looks at my arm and then to Matt, the two of them got a huge smile on their face and said in a very loud voice "is that Ringworm? yuck, isn't that contagious?" at this time, my ring worm was huge and pink and disgusting. the lady that was sitting next to me, (someone who i didn't know) looked at my arm, wrinkled her nose and as politely as she could stood up and found another seat... hummf... sad day... That is my memory of having ring worm... being teased.
Well my dad came home from the gym last week and announced that he had ringworm on his leg. I panicked, remembering how yucky it was... and so i took emergency action... washing my hands every time i remembered that my house was contaminated with the germs of Ring worm...
Well, of course since i was so panicked about getting ringworm, i got Ringworm... it itches and i want to scratch it, but i don't want it to grow. it is only like a half inch in diameter. . . yes i just measured it, and it takes all my strength to hold my right arm back from having fun making my arm feel better by scratching it. hummf. well, i guess i better take care of it and pray that it doesn't spread... yucky yuck yuck... RINGWORM!!!
